Top Motorcycle Movies of All Time?

A list of "26 Greatest Motorcycle Moves of All Time" is provoking a bunch of comments today on Facebook.

The list includes "Top Gun," "Easy Rider" and "Wild Hog" but omits "The Motorcycle Diaries."

The original article lists some B-movies alongside some cult favorites and more mainstream films, and includes some interesting details that are worth reading. Take a look HERE.

But, I think the list needs to be updated to include "The Motorcycle Diaries" (2004) that follows two friends through the sweeping vistas of South America on motorcycles. Walter Salles is no ordinary director and the cinematography is truely gorgeous.

"Diaries" reminds me how little of the South American landscape we ever see on film in the US.

Also... what about "The World's Fastest Indian" - Anthony Hopkins?

What do you think?

  1. I think you're right, MJ. Motorcycle Diaries is a great road trip movie, and not the only one they missed. Truthfully, they could have done this as a Top 50 list and still missed a couple of movies that are worth Watching. To me, Running Cool and Beyond The Law are the two movies that best showcase the true biker culture, but movies like "Roadside Prophets" and "Me & Will", both road trip movies that focus more on the thoughts and dreams of the main characters while they ride their bikes long distance, should certainly be listed over Top Gun, which has one or two scenes of Tom Cruise on a bike. Oh, and for all the "Sons of Anarchy" fans out there, you should check out "The Last Chapter", a miniseries from Canada based on the the Canadian biker wars of the late 1990's.

    Thanks,
    Jeff
