April 9th - Kick off the week at "Phoenix Bike Night" at The Hideaway Grill ...

Mark Bradshaw, owner of the Hideaway Grill and an Arizona native, has been in the bar and restaurant business for over 20 years. After riding his Harley to Cave Creek for years, he fell in love with the little town and decided to move there about 17 years ago. He knew Cave Creek was where he wanted to open up his own place. In the fall of 1998 Mark did just that, he opened up his dream bar, The Hideaway Grill, a place where bikers would have a place to ride out of the big city to have a few drinks and grab some grub.

You will find the "almost famous" Kimmy Cruz tending bar at The Hideaway from open-to-close during Arizona Bike Week!

Arizona Bike Week 2010 Marked by Tragedy

Arizona Bike Week 2010 was tragically marked by a pre-rally accident on March 25th that has claimed the lives of 4 motorcyclists, while two others remain hospitalized in serious condition.

"PLEASE everyone watch out for motorcycles...It's that time of year when there are a lot of us out there!!!" advised Mark of the Hideaway Grill in nearby Cave Creek, where "Phoenix Bike Night" kicks off the rally on Friday, April 9th.

A group of 10 motorcycles were stopped at a red light at 27th & Carefree in Phoenix, AZ when they were stuck from behind by a semi-dump truck. Most of the bikers were members of the Phoenix Motorcycle Riders Group on a day ride with the Phoenix Motorcycle Kruzers.

"Pegs Down" - Some riders have vowed to ride their motorcycles with the passenger pegs down in memorial to the fallen riders, while others have vowed to tie a black bandana on the left handlebar of their bike to signify the loss of fellow-riders.

Many motorcycle riders have adopted the phrase, "Look Twice, Save A Life."

The YouTube video "You Didn't See Me" has been viewed 392,335 in the past three years and is something everyone should see and share.

Traveling "Desfiladero de la Hermida" in Cantabria, Spain

The “Desfiladero de la Hermida” is a narrow valley that was formed by the river Deva. It is located in Cantabria, Spain and is enclosed by high limestone walls, at some sections up to 600 meters high. The valley and road section (N-621) is about 21 km long, with lots of bends through an amazing landscape. It is in fact the longest canyon in Spain and got the name "La Hermida" from one of the very pretty villages that it passes through.

You can read the full article in English, German or Spanish at The Traveling Biker - a blog about motorcycle traveling around the world by Christoph Kieffer, who lives in Madrid, Spain.

2010 Daytona Bike Week in Review

Motorcycle USA had more of a presence at Bike Week 2010. They had a booth at the Ocean Center for the International Motorcycle Show and handed out boxes of free MotoUSA Magazines and Daytona 2010 kozzies. "The kozzies were very popular," said Bryan Harley, Cruiser Editor at Motorcycle USA... as illustrated by Kristi at the Broken Spoke Saloon.

"We also had a little industry party at the Blue Grotto on Friday night, another Daytona first for the company. Stiff drinks, great food, the Dan Lawson Band and plenty of pretty spokes models meant all the necessary ingredients for a successful party were in place."

Other sponsors of the "Industry Party For All!" that was open to the public included ACCEL Motorcycle Products and V-8 Vanquish Motorcycles.

Here's a "most excellent" review by Bryan Harley

International Women's Ride Day - May 6th 2011

The concept is simple - women all over the world connecting on the first Friday in May, every year by just riding their motorcycles... where you live, whatever brand or style of riding - JUST RIDE! This year's ride on the first Friday will be on May 6th 2011. Last year, a group of women riders in Aruba joined the ride, and this year a Russian federation of women riders will participate.

Motoress - connecting women with motorcycling - founded the international awareness day in 2007 and inspired women riders around the world to ride together and individually on the first Friday in May to celebrate the pleasure and freedom they have found in taking to the open road on two wheels - including women across the US and Canada, Australia and Cape Town.

The Aruba Women Riders launched their first ride in 2010. Follow the link to see photos of the ride and a story.

Harley-Davidson sponsored two huge rides in 2009 in Milwaukee and New York, and produced this video of the rides and women ride events all over the world.

Roar Sisterhood Ride - Daytona Bike Week 2010

Daytona Bike Week 2010 - The Roar Sisterhood Ride was a beautiful event on the last Saturday morning. The sisterhood of riders was chased by a CBS News crew in a red Mustang convertible as their police-escorted ride headed north on Tomoka Road to enjoy the curves and tree-canopied "loop" through the scenic inlet waterways of Ormond Beach.

The riders included Ms. Magman, Kristin Gracy of Southern Biker Magazine from Knoxville, Tenn.

Dianne Grieve from Ontario, Canada was also with the women, as they roared past The Cabbage Patch in Samsula, Florida on County Highway 415, heading for Lake Monroe.

Dianne took up riding in 2004 when her husband "got a bike again." She couldn't imagine herself riding on the back of a sportbike for the next 10 years, so she passed the riding test and got her motorcycle license. "I've been in the ditch," she said almost proudly. "I can highly recommend Roar's Ride Like A Pro training series. It really helped me after that." Dianne became passionate about riding and has also taken some higher level training at Daytona Beach International Speedway.

Roar Motorcycles - based at 897 Bellevue Ave. in Daytona Beach - builds and customizes bikes and offers riding gear designed for women.

Through the Roar Sisterhood, women motorcyclists are able to participate in rides, tours and charity events.

The company also empowers women to demonstrate Roar Motorcycles, become trainers, become dealers and open their own dealerships.
In January, Ed and Carol Avery joined Roar Motorcycles to launch a full events calendar in New England and at motorcycle rallies and charity events throughout the USA. Find RoarNewEngland on Facebook.
